Exercise – a true investment for your brain
We love this interesting new study which indicates yet another long term benefit of exercise. In a world where Instagram selfies sometimes dwarf the underlying holistic benefits of being active; it is nice to see studies like this pop up on social media as well as mainstream news.
You can read the media release from American Academy of Neurology here.
The study looked at the cardiovascular fitness of 50 year old women and followed up later dementia risk. The table below indicates fitness level and subsequent dementia risk. It was also found that those most fit that did develop dementia did so at a later age.
Fitness level on test | Dementia risk |
High | 5% |
Medium | 25% |
Low | 32% |
Could not finish test | 45% |
Personal training is just one way to exercise but we believe the accountability, support and focused training is an effective way to improve fitness as well as strength, balance and movement quality.
Essentially this is just another good reminder to look beyond the scales and ensure you are regularly investing into your health.
